Our Top Ten Things to do on Gower During your Stay at Jacob Cottage

One of the questions we're most often asked by guests is, "What should we do while we're here?"

The truth is, one of the joys of staying at Jacob Cottage is that there isn't a right answer. Some days are spent exploring the coastline from dawn until dusk. Others are about slowing down, finding a good café and enjoying the simple pleasures of being on Gower.

Whether you're visiting for a weekend or a longer escape, here are ten of our favourite experiences to help you make the most of your stay.

1. Walk to Three Cliffs Bay

No visit to Gower would be complete without a trip to Three Cliffs Bay.

Regularly voted one of Britain's most beautiful beaches, its sweeping dunes, dramatic limestone cliffs and tidal estuary create a landscape that feels different every time you visit.

The best part? You can walk there directly from Jacob Cottage.

Allow yourself plenty of time to wander, explore and simply take in the view.

2. Watch Sunset from Pennard Castle

If we had to recommend one sunset spot on Gower, this would be it. Rhossili might have the most dramatic, but sunset at the castle is just lovely, and can be enjoyed striaght from the door.

Pack a blanket and a cold beer, walk up to the ruins of Pennard Castle and settle in for one of the finest views in Wales.

As the evening light falls across Three Cliffs Bay and the valley below, you'll quickly understand why this place is so loved.

3. Enjoy a Sauna and Sea Dip at Ty Sawna

For something truly special, book a session at Ty Sawna on Oxwich Bay.

This beautiful wood-fired sauna sits right on the beach, allowing you to alternate between the warmth of the sauna and refreshing dips in the sea.

It's a wonderfully restorative experience and one we recommend to almost every guest.

4. Walk to Worm's Head at Rhossili

Rhossili is one of the most spectacular corners of Gower.

Spend the day exploring the headland, admiring the vast sweep of Rhossili Bay and, if the tides allow, walking out to the remarkable Worm's Head.

The scenery here is unforgettable.

5. Join a Botanical Art Workshop with We Are Woven

For a slower pace, spend a few hours with We Are Woven in her beautiful greenhouse studio.

These immersive botanical workshops celebrate creativity, nature and mindfulness, making them a perfect rainy-day activity or thoughtful holiday treat.

6. Enjoy a Steak at The Gower Inn

Just a short walk from the cottage, The Gower Inn is a firm favourite with both locals and visitors.

Order the sharing steak, enjoy a pint of local ale and, if you're visiting on a Friday, stay for the live music.

It's everything a great village pub should be.

7. Walk Across Cefn Bryn

For one of the best views on Gower, walk from Jacob Cottage through Parkwood and up onto Cefn Bryn.

Often called the backbone of Gower, this ridge offers incredible views across the peninsula, stretching from coast to coast.

Reward yourself afterwards with a well-earned pint and some homemade food at The King Arthur Hotel in Reynoldston.Photo suggestion: Walkers on Cefn Bryn with panoramic views.

8. Spend an Afternoon Exploring Mumbles

Mumbles is the perfect place for a leisurely afternoon.

Wander the seafront promenade, browse independent shops and stop for an ice cream at Verdi's.

Food lovers should also visit Olives & Oils for artisan produce and Coakley's Fishmongers for some of the freshest seafood around.

9. Get Out on the Water

Whether it's surfing at Caswell Bay or paddleboarding at Oxwich, Gower is made for water lovers.

Lessons and equipment hire are available locally, making it easy for beginners to give it a go.

Some of our favourite holiday memories involve simply spending a few hours playing in the sea.

10. Enjoy Seafood by the Sea

There's something wonderfully nostalgic about fish and chips by the water.

Head to Mumbles Pier for a traditional seaside supper, or visit The Seafood Hut for fresh local seafood enjoyed with a sea view.

Simple, delicious and the perfect way to end the day.

Slow Down and Explore

The beauty of Gower isn't just in the places themselves, but in the slower pace of life they encourage.

From sunrise walks and sea swims to long lunches and evenings beneath the trees back at Jacob Cottage, the best memories are often the simplest ones.

We hope this list inspires you to discover a few of your own favourite places during your stay.

And don’t forget to enjoy some toasted marshmallows on the fire bowl or down the beach!
